This breathtaking 9-day flying safari combines the dry and savagely beautiful bush country of Meru National Park, Samburu National Reserve and Shaba National Park in northern Kenya with the open rolling grasslands of the Masai Mara plains.
Joy and George Adamson's legendary adopted lioness, Elsa, roamed in many of these areas during her lifetime, while Shaba National Park is where Penny the famous leopard was released. This safari will allow you to follow in their footsteps.
The hand-picked accommodation included in this itinerary is full of character. Your stay at Elsa's Kopje is a real treat. Hidden away amongst the rocky crags, the camp is built very near to the site of George Adamson's original campsite. There is a sense of space and style which encourages pure relaxation. The ultimate 'pool with a view' looks out across the plains, perfect for chilling out after a game drive or guided walk in the bush.
Your safari ends in the Masai Mara with a stay at the unique Cottars 1920's. Situated in an exclusive and extensive concession, this area is private. The camp recalls an era of romance and adventure. DAY 1 DAILY HEATHROW - NAIROBI
Fly from Heathrow overnight to Nairobi.
DAY 2 NAIROBI
On arrival transfer to your hotel for a day at leisure or choose from a selection of optional excursions (book and pay locally).
DAY 3 MERU
Transferred early in the morning for your light aircraft to Meru National Park (approximately 1 hour).After lunch, enjoy a late afternoon game drive. Elsa's Kopje has eight elegant open plan rooms with a view. Activities include day and night game drives, guided walks, bush meals, sundowners and laundry.
DAY 4 & 5 MERU
Early morning and late afternoon game drives.
DAY 6 SAMBURU
Depart after breakfast by light aircraft and fly to Samburu National Reserve (approximately 40 minutes). After lunch, enjoy a late afternoon game drive. Larsens Camp is a luxurious tented camp, set on a the banks of the Uaso Nyiro River.
DAY 7 SAMBURU
Early morning and late afternoon game drives.
DAY 8 MASAI MARA
Fly by light aircraft to the Masai Mara Game Reserve (approximately 1 hour 30 minutes). Enjoy a late afternoon game drive. Cottars 1920's has six spacious and luxuriously canvas tents. Activities include day and night game drives, guided walks, bush meals, sundowners, laundry and massage.
DAY 9 MASAI MARA
Take an early morning balloon safari over the Mara followed by a 'bubbly' bush breakfast (optional extra) or a game drive followed by breakfast at the camp. Rest of the morning at leisure. After lunch enjoy a late afternoon game drive.
DAY 10 MASAI MARA
Early morning and late afternoon game drives.
DAY 11 EXTENSION OR HEATHROW
Fly by light aircraft to Nairobi (approximately 1 hour). Proceed with your chosen extension or return to Heathrow. |
